Old Christmas Lights.

I'm going to be honest. I have been fighting to find posts to write lately. I am so busy with side projects, work and the fa la la la holidays, that I haven't even found the time to get creative with my posts.

I thought that today I would bring everyone some Christmas cheer, and give you some neat ways to use your old Christmas lights!

I am fully in love with the Holiday Season. Sometimes I even tend to get tacky.. During my morning Pinterest scrolling, I came across a pin about using your old Christmas lights (obviously the larger glass ones) as a centrepiece. This didn't really click in my head until I clicked through to the link and saw the loveliness that came up on the page. It was amaaaazing, and so simple.... I guess I should tell you what it was..duh Lauren...So basically these lights had been screwed off the wire and cleaned.  They were than coated in modge-podge and dipped in various colours of glitter. After they were dried, they got placed in a large glass hurricane that sat in the centre of the table.

Delightful right?

Here's what they look like:

Other creative ways to decorate the bulbs:

Gather into a bouquet!

Paint and then make them into ornaments!WOAH!

Paint them pretty!

Enjoy O' festive people! Get creative!

Paper Bag Comeback.

It has been a while... I realize this. Its not done intentionally, work just seems to be super busy, and never ending. Bleh.

News: No more destinations posts...I think I will continue with venues and spaces (including hotels and restaurants yes) but no more destinations! Sorry! I promise to make up for it in other beautiful posts.

Back to topic: Paper Bags.

I was never the kid who got their lunch in a paper bag. Always had a lunch bag. I used to see the TV mom's making their kids lunch in the paper bag and always thought it was the coolest thing!

Being more of green-conscious community, I think paper bags have made a bit of a comeback. Not necessarily for lunches, but in event decor.

And now for a list of ways to use paper bags at your next shindig:

  • Print an event program on a paper bag
  • Use the paper bag to hold confetti
  • Use as a takeaway bag for guests
  • Create goodie bags for guests
  • Paper bag flowers
  • Take away lunches
  • Paper bag centerpieces (avec candles or flowers)
  • Paper bag labels or tags
It really doesn't get much better, or cheaper than that. Check out the pictures below, and seriously hop on this Eco-friendly band wagon.

Donuts.

I love donuts. I shouldn't...really shouldn't but I do. I think they are tasty, and pretty, and just perfectly, perfect. When was the last time you ever saw a donut as your dessert at and event or wedding? It's obviously not the best dessert to serve, cause you know it has no grilled figs, honey drizzle or lemon sabayon, but its got some damn good chocolate covered-cream filled-cake! I wouldn't necessarily choose a donut as your meal finale at an event. I know it doesn't seem like it but even I have a bit of class. However you can bet on it, that there will be a donut sweet table at my wedding..for sure.. no doubt. I don't care what people think they are going to stick on the table its not happening. Donuts Donuts Donuts! I mean how cute would that be with a little glass of milk. I tried to source a few images to relay the mental images in my head. Hopefully you all get what I am thinking.

Until next time.

Yarn.

I much prefer to create the decor than purchase it. Don't get me wrong I am a shopping freak, purchasing is great, you can get some amazing items here, here, or here. I just find personal touches can really help to make that event special, and sometimes even make your guests feel more comfortable.

I wasn't sure that I wanted to post about this DIY project today, because literally everyone will be getting one of these for Christmas. Sorry! These yarn covered letters make such great decor items at weddings, parties, or dinners. They even make as great wall decor for any room in the house.

All you need is:

Wooden letters. You can pick these up at the dollar store, or any Michael's Craft Store, sometimes even Winners has them. It doesn't matter what colour they are because you are going to cover it up.

You will obviously need some yarn. You can buy it again at the dollar store, Michael's, Walmart will have some. The best yarn would be from specialty knitting stores.

The obvious next step is to wrap the letters in the yarn of your choice. I would start with a bit of glue, and end with a bit of glue, but its up to you about how you want to finish  them ( i.e. knotting)

Finished Products:

If you are feeling extra creative and a little daring, create your letters using a hammer and nails, either on the wall itself or on an awesome 2"4. Looks pretty amazing if your willing to try.

Crystal Paradise.

Finally...Belize. it's taken a while, to be honest, while researching the destination, not everything really pops out at me as "must blog now", so I have been picky about what to blog. If anyone has been there, please shoot me a comment on something you'd like to see!

I try to post about the more unique venue's that will hopefully leave you with an awesome experience, or a really big yearning to hit that place up, maybe throw a party, get married, what ever floats your boat.

I came across Crystal Paradise Resort, and fell in love. I dig straw huts. I mean I love everything about it, minus the bugs that might get in there and burrow. However, back to Crystal Paradise, this beautiful Eco-friendly resort is located in the middle of the jungle, along the Macal River. It sounds far, but it is only a short distance into the main Cayo town.

Crystal Paradise actually boasts 6 different types of hand-made Cabana's. (Valley View Thatched Cabanas (houses 3), Deluxe Thatched Cabanas (houses 4), Garden View Lofts (houses 6), Regular Rooms (houses 4) and the Heliconia Cottage (houses 2)). Each Cabana has their own charm, however the Heliconia is definitely the one you want to stay at..its quite beautiful and it is fully air conditioned, which I'm pretty sure might be a big NEED in that hot, sweaty jungle.

Crystal Paradise also offers home cooked meals (served family style) on a daily basis. These meals are not free.

I have included a few picture's below. Anyone for a vacay?

Adult Bday Party.

My parents were not the type to indulge into the birthday party thing each year. I blame them for my obsession with event planning and decor. Sorry Mom and Dad for not being the financial wiz you always wanted!

I won't totally through my parents under a bus, I did have one special shindig when I turned 13, however now that I look back, its more of a " what was I thinking, kinda party." Ten years later (yes, that would make me 23) I have celebrated my birthday's usually in bars, sometimes even my house or a restaurant. Yet I have never thrown myself a real themed, decorated to the perfect "t" party. It would be nice don't ya think? Kind of self indulgent...but its your birthday...you should be all self indulgent-y. I mean someone needs to love you on your birthday, it might as well be yourself...are you following...good me neither.

Getting back to the reason for this post, I came across this colourful yet mature, 30th birthday party this morning during my morning perusal. It's pretty fantastic, and it will definitely put you in the party mood. Check out the photos below, and let me know your thoughts, and if you want me to throw you a birthday party...I would be delighted to!

More posts, on Belize to come, I just need to find the best places to show you guys. Bare with me.
