Polka Dots.

Polka dots, have become a slight obsession of mine in the last little while. From shirts to pants and dresses, I can't seem to get enough. I remember when I was a little girl, and my grandma  would wear polka dots all the time (she still rocks them), and I used to think, how fancy they were. So, I thought I would do a post on polka dot decor. Random, I know! You don't see it often but when you do, it can be quite eye-catching. Its a theme that I think many would be hesistant to try, because it is so bold, but with the variety of patterns, I think everyone can find their own polka dot.

Remember...Polka dots come in other colours :)

Shades.

Topic of discussion: Take Away Gifts.

I am a big fan of take away gifts. Even if the guest isn't paying or bringing anything, I still like everyone to go home with a little memento of the evening. I did a Gala Ball one year, that was themed the "After Party" It took place right at the start of the Toronto Film Festival, and it was quite the ritzy evening. Each guest received a pair of sunglasses (3 choices for female and 3 choices for male) as their take away. I don't think we had one picture where people didn't have their sunglasses on. The SHADES made it one of the greatest Gala's we have ever done.

Picnic.

I don't think I have been on a picnic, since the Teddy Bear Picnic in grade one. That sucks, they look like a lot of fun right? On Saturday, my boyfriend and I were at the park, and decided a picnic over the long weekend would be a nice activity. I'm not going to lie, the first thing I thought of was what outfit am I going to choose, should I get new picnic shoes. Wacko I know! Other than my attire dilemma, I am pretty excited to sit outside for hours and drink wine from secret water bottles and hang out with my dude.

I'm thinking that maybe picnics should make a return to the scene. Picnic wedding? Hello! So awesome!

La Citron.

I'm not too sure if this post is coming to early. I usually find that the citrus decor tones, come out closer to the summer months, but whatever, it's to refreshing to ignore right now.

When I was younger, I never wore yellow or orange. It was the first colour I would pick up at the store, but my mom would always make me put it back, saying those tones made me look pale. Heart-wrenching I know. As I got older I just stopped listening and I will purchase orange and yellow clothing as I please.

The same idea goes for decor. When I first started into events, I would use decor as long as it matched with my surroundings. Champagne, neutrals, black, white, and soft hues seemed to be the easiest to work with the carpet and flowers and the grotesque chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.  As I got more comfortable, it was easy to envision your look and ignore the surroundings. This sounds wrong right? If you play your colours right it will usually fall into place, and the walls and carpets will compliment your decor rather than the other lame way around.

I have yet to do a bright yellow theme, but have done pretty much every other colour. If you start small; say yellow trimmings at an outdoor barbecue or green at a baby shower, you'll get more accustomed to it.

PS. The colour schemes, like yellow and orange and pink, really brighten up your crowd too. I guarantee no boring people at your colourful shin-digs.

x Lo

Make it yours.

You know how people say, if you make the gift it means more? Or if you bake that pie instead of buying one, its going to be that much more delicious? It's true right... I mean the more effort you put into something the more amazing its going to be..right?

The same should go for your decor, regardless of if you have a budget or you have no budget (lucky!) creating little cards, or place holders, arrangements, take aways, and other decor extras, make the event not only one-of-a-kind but it makes it yours.

I'm sure most of you are thinking of DIY weddings, but you can create decor pieces for many events, such as,

Stir Sticks at Bridal Showers
Place Cards at Dinner Parties
Garland at Birthday Parties
Arrangements at Social Events

I would suggest trying it out, it can be fun bonding time with you and your girls, or your significant other if he/she is willing to help, and no sports are on!

I have included some pictures of an exceptional DIY Texas Wedding sourced from Green Wedding Shoes.
