I came across these pretty invites, that you could probably DIY after a nice trip to Michael's. I would definitely use the first one.

Sorry that these examples are all weddings, you can always use a fancy invite for a party or event other than a wedding!

I always liked the tackiness of vintage postcards. I tend to like old-school tacky in general. I never thought of using a postcard as a save-the-date or invitation until I saw it perusing for images on the web. I love it. If I were getting married or planning anything but a gala (which I never get to do!) this would be my first choice in place of expensive linen cashmere loopty loop lace invites.

Thought: I like the idea of burning the edges of the postcard giving it a romantic, civil war-love-letter kind of look. Reminds me of school projects. Sighh.
